Tom used to suffer from anxiety, taking the necessary medication, and wanted nothing more that to work in an office for someone else. In 2014, he attended the Expedition Planning weekend at the Royal Geographical Society in London, which set him on a U-turned course to become an adventurer.
Hitchhiking alone around the world is certainly something that nobody thought was possible, especially for someone like Tom. So far on his trip, the lessons he has learned through the hardships of solo-hitchhiking have taught him that we are all capable of so much more than we think, and that the world we are told about on the news is nowhere near what it is in reality. Through his talks, Tom shows audiences that feeling unable to do something is never a restriction. He inspires and motivates people, young and old, in the hope that they will one day be brave enough to also follow their own dream.
